Tattoo Aftercare

Important tings :

•  Avoid swimming in the sea / pools / soaking the tattoo in the bath within two weeks

*no baths, swimming, sauna- this risks infection, colour loss, and extra scabbing.

Showers are still needed folks :)

• Avoid exposing the tattoo to direct sunlight in the first 2 weeks - once it’s fully healed use sunscreen to keep the tattoo from fading. Overall sunscreen is a great decision considering global warming.

• Avoid scratching, picking, or rubbing the area of the tattoo. Itchiness is normal as part of - to calm down the itching you can apply a thin layer of moisturizer, gently slap it, or give it a fresh wash, dry, and moisturize.

• Avoid excessive sweating/exercise/movement/friction from clothes in the area during the first week.

• Wash your hands before starting the process of cleaning your new tattoo.

We use ‘Second Skin’ as a barrier after the session . Second-skin is a medical-grade, transparent adhesive bandage that protects new tattoos while they are healing. It protects the tattoo from bacteria, debris, and irritation.

You should keep the bandage on for at least 3-4 days unless given different directions from the artist.

Fluid build up beneath the bandage is normal. If the bandage begins to leak, please remove the bandage. This is normal for tattoos that contain a lot of black pigment in them. The fluid is just plasma and excess ink! Showering is fine with either bandage, but please don’t submerge your new tattoo in water for 2-3 weeks.

After 3-4 days, remove the Second Skin bandage gently under warm running water. Ideally during the shower.

After its removal, please rinse the tattoo with water only, and pet it dry using a paper towel. let it air dry for a couple of hours until the skin feels pulling. After this, wash the piece with gentle soap, and the moisturizing can be started using an unscented, non-oily lotion.

When moisturizing, use a THIN layer - allow your skin to breathe while being moisturized.

Peeling and flaky skin during the healing process is normal. Let the skin do what it needs to do in its own time - please avoid picking at the tattoo which can cause on loss of colour.

Swollen and warm skin around the tattooed area is normal for a couple of days after being tattooed.
